DescriptionSaw James Ryan, 19 years of age; his Parents live 13 Shorts Gardens; his Father a Bricklayer's Labourer. He was educated in St. Patrick's School, Dean street, Soho, but has never been brought up to any trade. When just 15 years of age, he was tried at the Old Bailey for stealing a cruet stand & other Articles from Mr. Curling of Tavistock Square & received the sentence of transportation. He was sent to the Penitentiary & confined there 3 years & 10 months; & was discharged 3 weeks since. He came recommended by Hy Pownall Esq, who desired, if there were no room in the Permanent Establishment, that he ought to be placed in the Temporary Refuge at his charge.
