The Board being Informed that Mr. Thos. Fawkner< no role > and Mr. Oliver
Carr two of the late Overseers of the Poor for the Year 1719
haveing made an Agreemt. with one Mr. John Lye< no role > for the
Sumed of Ten pounds for their defraying the charges of
the lyeing in of one Sarah Mayne< no role > Singlewoman who
was then bigg with Child(She haveing charged him the said
John Lye< no role > on Oath to be the Father of the Child She was then
pregnant withall)and also for the maintenance & Educacon.
of the Said Child when bornd and inpformance of the sd.
agreemt. the sd. Lye pd. them the ten pounds which they brot.
to the Parish Account that the Said Sarah Mayne< no role > haveing
been Since delivered the present Overseers of the poor defrayed
the charges of her lyeing in & took care of the child & bug
as it lived but the child being now dead Lye hath brot. an Accon
against Mr. Hawkner and Mr. Carr for the Said money & held them
to Spiad Bayle to the Sherriffe & Mr Hawkner being at the
Door he was called in And a Debate ariseing there upon
The Queon Pposed was whether this Board would stand by and
Indemniifye the Said Mr. Hawkner and Mr. Carr against all the
necessary charges which they already have or here after way
be put into by reason of the said Accon being brot. against them
by the Said Lye and

Mr. Justice Saunders insisting that the present Overseers of
the poor might withdraw when the queen was put in regard
(as he alleadged)they were not Vestrymen Where upon
The Faculty of the late Bishop of London for holding a Vestry
being read whereby it appeares that the Overseers of the poor
for the time being are Vestry men Then

The Question being put whether this Board will Stand by and
Indemnifye the Said Mr. Hawkner & Mr. Carr against all the
necessary charges and expences they already have or hereafter
may be put into by reason of the Said Accon being brought
against them It was carryed in the Affirmative 15 Psons-
against one.
