THE ORDINARY of NEWGATE'S ACCOUNT of the Behaviour, Confession, &c.

BY Virtue of the King's Commission of the Peace, OYER and TERMINER, and Jail-Delivery of Newgate, held before the Right Honourable JOHN BLACHFORD< no role > , Esq ; Lord Mayor of the City of London , the Lord Chief-Baron PARKER, Mr. Justice BURNET, Mr. Justice FOSTER, Mr. Baron CLIVE, RICHARD ADAMS< no role > , Esq ; Recorder , and others of his Majesty's Justices of OYER and TERMINER, and Jail-Delivery of Newgate, holden for the said City of London, and County of Middlesex, at Justice-Hall, in the Old Bailey , on Wednesday the 11th , Thursday the 12th , Friday the 13th , and Saturday the 14th of July , in the twenty-fourth Year of his Majesty's Reign, ELY SMITH< no role > This name instance is in set 3567. , HENRY WEBB< no role > , JOHN< no role > , otherwise DANIEL CARREL< no role > , SAMUEL COOK< no role > , JAMES TYLER< no role > , THOMAS WALLIS< no role > , BENJAMIN CHAMBERLAIN< no role > This name instance is in set 3566. , and THOMAS CRAWFORD< no role > , were capitally convicted, and received Sentence of Death accordingly.

Their Behaviour has been very decent and quiet, and at Prayers every Day in the Chapel there was the Appearance of Devotion in most of them, which is somewhat extraordinary; inasmuch, as for the most Part, these unfortunate People are ignorant, and quite illiterate; but these could all read, except only one, and were capacitated to make Use of the Book of Common-Prayer, and others fit for their Purpose.

On Thursday, the second Instant , Mr. Recorder made the Report of the eight Malefactors to the Lords of the Regency, when they were pleased to order the six following for Execution, viz. Ely Smith< no role > , Henry Webb< no role > , Samuel Cook< no role > , James Tyler< no role > , Benjamin Chamberlain< no role > , and Thomas Crawford< no role > , on Wednesday the 8th Instant .
