Majestys late Proclamation calling upon all persons at this
time to pay obedience to the Laws and diligently to attend to the
Gradesmen Artifiers Workmen Labourers and other Persons do
[..] religionDuties on the Lad dayobservance of the had
and exercise Worldly Labour Business and Work of their ordinary
day
calling and that the holy keeping and religious observance of the
Lords day commonly called Sunday hath been in other respects
notoriously profaned and neglected
in violation of the Lawsdesired
In contempt of Order and Decency and to the great Scandal of
the Christian Religion Now this Court taking the Premises
into serious considerationLordin order to prevent and Punish all such
Abuses Do hereby recommend it to this Majestys Justices of the
Peace acting in and for this County strictly to put the Laws in force
for the better observance of the Lords day commonly called Sunday
and to do their Endeavours to put a Stop to the illegal and irreligious
Practices before mentioned
And it isalsoOrdered by this Court that the High Constables of the several
divisions and Hundreds of this County as also the respective Petty
Constables Headboroughs and other peace Officers within the same
do carefully exert themselves to put in Execution the said Laws
andagainst such offenders and also that they take effectual care to prevent all Persons keeping Taverns
Chocolate Houses, Coffee Houses or other publick Houses whatsoever
from selling Wine, Chocolate Coffee All Beer or other Liquors or
receiving or permitting Guests to be or remain in such their Houses
in the time of divine Service on the Lords day, as they will answer
the contrary at their Peril
