The Humble Petition of Francis Calvart< no role >
of the
Tottenham Court Road
in the County of Middlesex

Sheweth
That your Petitioner was on or about the 7th day
of October instant convicted in the Penalty £10 by
William Hyde< no role >
Esquire
one of his Majesty's Justices for the said County for that your
Petitioner being a Person licensed to let out. Horses to hire for the
purposes travelling Post by the Mile & from Stage to Stage and
residing within 5 Miles of the Head Office for Stamps did not
nor would on the 23d. & 24th days of July 1788 being the Times appointed
for that purpose by the Commissioners for putting in Excution a
Certain Act of Parliament made & passed in the 25th Year of the Reign
of his present Majesty's Intitled An Act for repealing Duties on
Licences taken out by Persons letting Horses for the purposes of
travelling Post Etc. (at the Public Notice thereof was given in
the Gazette) bring in or deliver to
John Sargeant< no role >
being the
Person appointed by the said Commissioners for the purpose of
receiving the same at the Office appointed for the reception
of the Duty on Post Horses the Accounts that is to say the
Stamp Office Weekly Accounts in that Behalf directed in and by
the said Act of Parliament for the 4 Weeks ending on the Saturday
preceeding such days of delivery but therein failed.
And your Petitioner thinking himself aggrieved thereby
humbly begs leave to appeal from such Conviction
And that you will please to appoint a Day in the
present Session for the that purpose
And your Petitioner will ever pray Etc.
