When the Magistrates of Middx and Surey agreed
to Build a Bridge over the River Thames at Chertsey
Mr. Paine and Mr. Couse were employed to Superintend
the same, it was necessary to have a Correct plan of
that part of the River contiguous thereto Mr Richardson
the Land Surveyor at the desire of Messrs: Paine and
Couse made a Correct Plan Thereof And with some
Assistants the charge amounted to £6..3s..0d, which
Mr. Couse paid by Mr. Paines desire the Moiety of
which Mr. Couse expected to have been Repaid by
Mr. Paine as there was an Accompt for other
Business outstanding Mr. Couse made no demand
at that time, but to his Surprize, is now informed
by him, that He having Acted Gratis for the County
of Middx , has no Right to pay the same but that
the County or the Contractors should pay this
Trifling Charge.
