John Harwood< no role > of the parish of saint James Clerkenwell in
the County of Middx late Senior Clerk to Charles Eyles< no role > Deputy Clerk of
the peace for the sd County & Daniel Hinley< no role > now Senior Clerk to the said
Chas Eyles soveraley make Oath & say And first the sd Daniel Hinley
for himself maketh Oath & saith that he hath been clerk to the sd Chas
Eyles in the office of the Clerk of the Peace for the County of middx upwds
of 8 Years 7 years where of this Dept was the second Clerk in the sd office
And the sd Jno Harwood for himself Saith that he was Clerk to the said
Chas Eyles very near 9 Years & both these Depts Say that the Sessions for the
sd County of Middx are held under two commissions one a Commn of the
peace & the other a Commn of Oyer & Terminer and these Dept further
say that at such Sessions the Justices of the Peace & the Justices of oyer
& Terminer sit together upon the same Bench & that both Commons are
usually opened & proclamations made under the same on the first
day of Sessions holden at the said Sessions house And that the
same persons serve as a Grand Jury & an Sworn under both Commns
& that the Acts & proceedings of the Court at the Sessions both as Justices
of the peace and as Justices of Oyer & Terminer are entered in a
Bood endorsed with the Title of the Session of the peace which Book is
ever since these Depts have been in the sd Office & long before as appears to
them by the Records of the sd Sessions hath been made out in the follow &
manner Vizt the first Leaf thereof is left in blank for a list of the Names
of such Justices as may be present each day of the Sessions to be
inserted therein The second Leaf thereof for the insertions of the Memdum
of the days of holding the Sessions of the Peace with the Names of such
Justices of the Peace as may be present during the holding such
Sessions The third leaf thereof for the Memdums of the days of holding
the Sessions of Oyer & Terminer with the Names of such of the Justices
of Oyer & Terminer as may be present dweing the holding of such
Sessions & the 4th Leaf is left for the Insertion of the Names of the
Grand Jury & Traverse Jury under both Commns & for a short Minute
of the several Adjournmt of the said Sessions held under both the sd
Commrs & the rest of the Book is appropriated for the Entry of other
Business of both Sessions & for a fair list or Calendar of the several
Indictments found by the Grand Jury at such Sessions And
