Whereas one Ann Charly< no role > hath lately declared on her Oath, that She is now with
Child, of a Child or Children; and which when born is or are likely to be born a Bastard or Bastards and to become
chargeable to the Parish of St. James Westminster And hath also or her Oath charged and Thomas Coverdale
with having unlawfully be gotten on her body the said Child or Children of which She is now pregnant as aforesaid
And whereas the said Thomas Coverdale< no role > hath therefore made application unto us Edward Kightley< no role >
and Strangeways Taylor< no role > two of the present Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of St. James requesting us to
take and accept the Sum of Nine Pounds of lawfull Money of Great Britain for the use of the
Poor of the said Parish and in Consideration there of to Exonerate and Discharge him the said Thomas
Coverdale
< no role > of and from the Charges and Expences of Maintaining Nursing Bringing up and
Educating of a Child or Children of which the said Ann Charley< no role > is now pregnant and of and from
all other Charges and Expences whatsoever touching the Same for the future.

Now know all Men by the presents that for and in Consideration of the
said Sum of Nine Pounds to us the said Edward Kightley< no role > and Strangeways Taylor
in hand paid by him the said Thomas Coverdale< no role > and by us accepted at his request as aforesaid the Receipt
whereof is hereby acknowledged, We the said Edward Kightley< no role > and Strangeways taylor do promise as
far as in us his for ourselves and the rest of the present Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish, of St. James
and their and our Successors To save harmless and keep Indemnified the said Thomas Coverdale
of and from the Charges and Expences of the laying and lying in of the said Ann Charley
of the said Child or Children of which she is now pregnant as aforesaid, and which when born
is or are likely to be born a Bastard or Bastards and to become Chargeable to the said Parish
of St. James and of and from all other Charges and Expences whatsoever which for ever hereafter
may or might be charged on him the said Thomas Coverdale< no role > for or on respect of the Same
In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our Hands and Seals this Fifteenth day of
December 6th Thousand Seven hundred and Sixty eight.
