forth County of Middx
in
their General Quarter Sessions assembled
The humble petition and appeal of the Inhabitants of the
parish of Chelsea
in the County of Middx whose Names
are hereunto Subscribed on behalf of themselves and
divers other Inhabitants of the said parish
Sheweth
That a Rate hath been lately made by the Churchwarden & Overseers of the
Poor of the said Parish of Chelsea
upon the Inhabitants and Occupiers of Lands [..]
and Tenements in the same Parish for the Relief of the Poor thereof in this-
present year 1747, which your Petitioners are advised is unequal oppressive
and unjust, For that Several of the Inhabitants of the said Parish who are
Persons of great Substance and Ability are under charged in the said Rate
And that Several other Inhabitants of the Same Parish of less Circumstance
are over assessed in the aforesaid Rate, and for that Several other
Inhabitants of the said Parish of Considerable ability are not assessed but left out of the said Rates
That your Petitioners are very much aggrieved by the aforesaid Rate-
and humbly appeal to this Court against the same
And pray that the said Rate may be quashed and
vacated, and that the said Poor's Rate may be produced
before this Court at such time as the Court shall appoint
for the hearing and determining the Matter of the said Appeall.
And your Petitioners Shall pray Etc.
