Upon reading the humble peticon of Samuel Hutton< no role >
John Hocker< no role > William Collier< no role > Richard Wall< no role > & Henry
Quintam< no role > Parishioners of the parish of St. James
Clerkenwell in Finsbury Division in this County on behalfe of themselves
& divers other Inhabitants of the same parish
exhibited unto this Court setting forth that for the
yeare one thousand seven hundred & nineteen
William Cupon< no role > Thomas Gibson< no role > & Thomas shadd< no role >
were chosen & appointed surveyors of the highways
[..] in the sd. parish of St. James Clerkenwell , And
that dureing the said yeare under pretence of a
Rate or warrant they have exacted from the Petrs. &
divers other Inhitants of the sd. parish severall large
sumes of money amounting to the sume of two
hundred & fifty pounds & upwards, whereas in
truth fifty pounds would have been more then
sufficient to have [..] defrayed the necessary
expences for repaireing the highways in the said
parish, the sd. Surveyors haveing compounded with
the Trustees of the Turupike of their grand Road for
five & twenty pounds, and for the residne it cannot in
all probability amount to five & twenty pounds more
And that the office of the sd. surveyors terminated at
Christmas last , and the Justices of peace in that Division
have not though fit to pass the sd. Surveyors accompts or
