Wee whose Hands & seals are hereunto sett two of Her Maties: Justices of
the peace for the County of Middlesex (one where of being of the Quoz)
& inhabiting next the Limitts of the parish Church of the parish
of Hampstead in the said County having mett together & heard
the Complaint of the Church wardens & Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish
of Hampstead concerning two female Bastard Children both born in the said
Parish on the Body of Susan Ward< no role > Singlewoman on the ninth Day of
November last which are both baptized the first born Susanna &< no role > the last
born Elizabeth which< no role > said Bastard Children have ever since their
respective Births been Chargeable to the said parish & so likely to
continue Do find upon Examination of the said Susan Ward taken
upon Oath as also upon the Oath of Isabella Clarkson< no role > widow who
was present & assisting at the Travaile & delivery of the said Susan
Ward of the said two female Bastard Children & other Circumstances
That William Hartell< no role > now or lately lodging at the Sign of the Bull
in the Broad Street in the Parish of St Giles in the Fields in the said
County did beget on the Body of her the said Susan Ward the said
two Female Bastard Children and Do adjudge him the said William
Hartell the Reputed Father of the said to Female Bastard Children
& Do Order & appoint him the said William Hartell upon notice of
this our Order to pay to the said Church wardens & Overseers of the
poor or to some or one of them the Sume of forty Shillings of lawful
money of Great Britain towards Defraying the Charge of the said
Parish for Releif of the said Female Bastard Children for the
first four weeks after their birth & for the Charge of her lying
in beside five Shillings to the Midwife As also that he the said
William Hartell shall weekly & every week afterwards pay unto the
said Church wardens & Overseers of the Poor or to some or one of
them five shillings of like lawfull money for & towards the
Relief & maintainance of the said two Female Bastard Children
for so long time as they or either of them shall remain chargeable
to the said Parish and of & from the Charge there of at all times
here after shall save harmless & indemnifie the said Parish
& forthwith give Sufficient Securitie to the Church wardens &
Overseers of the poor of the said Parish for the Performance of this
our Order or appear at the next Genall Quarter Session of the
Peace to be holden for the said County then & there to abide
such Order as the Justices of the Peace or the more part of them
shall take in that behalf. Given under our Hands & Seals the
fifteenth Day of December Anno Dom 1713 .
