The Presentment of the Grand Jury for the County of
Middx
presented to the Worshipfull Bench of Justices
at Hicks Hall
Friday the 18th: day of January 1705
.
Whereas divers Laws and Statutes have been made for the preserving
Trade to the Setled Shopkeepers in this Kingdom, who pay all Duties
[..] es, Taxes and Impositions whatsoever And Serve all Offices and
[..] es, and pay very great Rents for the houses wherein they live
[..] notwithstanding such Laws, abundance of Hawker
[..] pay no taxes whatsoever, Nor does
[..] selves, and Numbers
[..] to Sale without Lycence, Wares and
[..] zes in this County of Middx to the great decay and ruine
[..] to the said Shopkeepers (which if not timely prevented) will
be the Utter ruine of them their families and Trades in generall
And which We conceive is against the said Law's and Statutes
hereto fore made
On Consideration of the decay of Trade as aforesaid &
the danger and ruining of Shopkeepers in generall
We do prsent the said Petty Chapmen and Pedlers who
sell or expose to Sale without Lycence, Any Wares or
Merchandizes within this County, to be within the Statute
of the 8th: & 9th: of King William And request this Honoble
Bench will please to make an Order to restrain such
persons from So doeing And also be pleased to put Such,
Law's in Execution as in such Cases are made & provided.
