Order for Viewing
a certain place in the
Parish of St. Giles in
the Fields to erect a
Watch house on.}


Upon Reading the Humble Petition of the Several Constables & Headbros
of the Parish of St. Giles in the Fields in this County Exhibitted unto this Court
thereby Shewing that they were att great Charge on their Watch Nights for
want of a Watch house in the said Parish and that they were forced to Sum on
their Watchman to meet att Victualling houses which was Expensive to the
Petitionrs. and that in the Cold and wett Winter Nights the Petitionrs. with their
Watchman are forced to Stand in the Open Streets for want of Shelter and that
there is a Wast piece of Ground in Holborn near the End of Southampton
Street being in the Highroad leading from the Barrs to the Parish
Church of St. Giles in the Fields and near the Center of the said
Parish where the Petrs. conceived itt might be very fitt to Erect as
Watch house thereon and Praying that this Court would grant an
Order to View the said Peice of Wast ground and that there might be
a Watch house built thereon att the Charges of the Parishes. of the said
Parish of St. Giles in the Fields Itt is thought fitt and Ordered by this
Court itt be and itt is hereby referred to Sr. Chas. Lee< no role > Knight Mr.
Bucknall Mr. Eyton Mr Alleshire and such other of their Maties
Justices of the Peace for this County as shall be present att the next
Petty Sessions to be held at the Court House att Bloomsbury in Holbourn
Division in this County or any three or more of them to View the said
Piece of Wast Ground and Sumon before them all the Inhabitants
Fronting and Adjoining to the same and Examine whether the building
of a Watch house on the said Piece of Wast ground will be Prejudiciall
to them in their Trades or otherwise and to make such Order for Erecting
of the said Watch house on the said piece of Wast Ground by consent.
of the said Inhabitants fronting and Adjoining thereto as to the said
Justices or any three of them shall seem meet for reliefe of the Petrs
