<p n="79">the County as a Surveyor unless the Gentlemen conclude my being in<lb></lb>
the Commission of the Peace is a reason why I am not to receive the<lb></lb>
Benefits of my profession. I wonder no Entry appears in the Books<lb></lb>
relative to the Matter; as I have been employed and paid as a Surveyor<lb></lb>
before the commencement of the business I sent an Account of in my Letter<lb></lb>
to the Chairman. I trust upon recollection many of the Justices must<lb></lb>
remember frequent reports from me concerning the progress of the several<lb></lb>
works under my direction. I am certain I never even hinted I meant<lb></lb>
to do this business Gratis; for me to make a present to the <rs type="placeName" id="LMSMGO55607_geo54">County of<lb></lb>

at large not only of my Time (wch. when I was in business<lb></lb>
was very valuable to me) but also of my Expences during a long course<lb></lb>
of Attendances, is what I think can never be supposed I meant to do;<lb></lb>
I never said I wod, it was never asked of me. I am out of Pocket a<lb></lb>
very considerable Sum of Money for myself and Clerks in travelling<lb></lb>
Expences, measuring the works and other necessary Business as a<lb></lb>
Surveyor. I must beg this Matter may be reconsidered. I surveyed<lb></lb>
the several works I have mentioned in my Account, The Tradesmen<lb></lb>
who did the work if called upon will inform the Sessions, they acted<lb></lb>
under me as the Surveyor; nothing was done without my direction,<lb></lb>
I examined and signed their Bills before they were paid; and have<lb></lb>
disbursed a large Sum in the Course of the business.</p>
