By Adjournment on Thursday the
26th. Day of April 1770

Ordered that Couse (Recommended by
Jonath Chadwick Durden< no role > John Roberts< no role > . William Shakespear< no role >
and Stephen Cole< no role > Esquires Four of his Majesty's Justices of
the Peace for this County) be employed to take a Survey
of the Repairs lately done to that part of Chertsey Bridge
Which lays within this County, and to Inspect the Several
Bills of Charges which have been made out and delivered for
such Repairs & examine whether all the Repairs therein
mentioned have or have not been done in a Workman like
Manner and whether the Charges for the same are just
and reasonable and that the saidCouse do give
his Opinion touching the premes to the said Justices who
are appointed as a Committee to take the same, and are
hereby desired to make their Report thereon to the Court
at the next General Session of the peace to be held for
this County on the County day in the same Session

By Adjournment on same Day.

Whereas Jonathan Chadwick Durden Esquire one of
his Majesty's Justices of the peace for this County having
at this present Session informed the rest of the Justice now
here assembled That the part of Chertsey Bridge which lays
within this County has lately sustained Considerable Damage
Occasioned by Barges Frequently striking against the
Piles thereof in the Night Time, And that unless some
Measures were speedily taken, further Damage must
inevitably follow & This Court Taking the Premises into
Consideration Doth (in Order to prevent as much as
Possible any further Damage being done to the said
Bridge by the Means aforesaid) hereby recommend it
to and desire the said Jonathan Chadwick Durden
will take such Measures for the securing the said Bridge
from such further (Damage as He in his Judgement
shall think most proper and necessary, at Expence
of this County.
