January 1760

At this Court Thomas Lane< no role > Esqr . Chairman delivered in the Report of the
Committee who met at Hicks Hall on Tuesday the Ninth day of this Instant
in Pursuance of an Order of the last Session which Report signed by himself the
said Mr. Lane George Greene< no role > Merry Teshmaker< no role > Hammond Cross< no role > Willm. Timbrell< no role >
Paul Mombray< no role > and Saunders welch< no role > Esquires being of the said Committee is as
follows Vizt.

About Vagrants.

Your Committee proceeded to Examine into the several Matters
referred to them by the Order of Court relating to Vagrants And Richd. Hassell< no role >
Esquire being present in Consequence of the Letter wrote him by Order of Court,
assured the Commee that if he had signed any Vagrant passes irregularly, it
was done by him in advertently; and that he was at all times desireous to Cut
agreable to the recommendatery Orders of this County Your Committee also
received a Letter from Mr. Bever, in Answer to that wrote him by the Clerk of
the Peace, by Order of the Sessions, In which Letter (among other Things)
Mr. Beers observed that some Gentlemen in Commission of the Peace for the
Libty of Westminster contrary to the abovementd. Orders direct the Vagrants
by their several Passes away to the Constable of Kensington ; especially those
brought from Kent & Surry over Westminster Bridge which Vagrants are
consequently brought before him at Hammersmith , when they should be lodged
in Westminster to be conveyed by the Contractor, or sent to the House of Correcting
and desired this Commee would endeavour to present that Practice: And
Mr. Bever promised, by his Letter to observe the Orders of Session in that
Respect for the future; And Mr. John Newbold< no role > the Constable of Kensington
who brought the said Letter informed this Commee of several Facts relating to
the said Irregularities mentioned therein; which in Order to put a Stop to
the Committee directed Mr. James Jefferson< no role > Deputy Clerk of the Peace to wait
on Jno. Carkesse< no role > This name instance is in set 237623782379. and Mr. Hornets of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace ; to
desire them to proceed in such Number as to render the said Orders and,
Regulations most effectual for the Benefit of this County. And it being taken
Notice of by this Commee, that greater Rewards, than are recommended to be
paid for the apprehending Vagrants, have been Ordered by Mr. Carkesse Mr.
Horne Mr. Benjn Cox< no role > and Mr. Fielding, this Commee directed the said Deputy
Clerk of the Peace to attend them with the Request of this Commee to Moderate
those Rewards for the Future, as thereby Great Savings would accrue to the
County Stock.

Your Committee being informed that James Sturges Adams the
Contracter for passing Vagrants, attended on the matter of Complaint against
James Ellis< no role > Constable of South Mims for disobeying the above mentioned
