Whereas an Indictment was preferred at the General Sessions
of the Peace holden for the County of Middx on the tenth day of
September 1744 against one William Griffiths< no role > for unlawfully
maliciously and contemptuously uttering and Speaking of and
concerning John Elliott< no role > This name instance is in set 3963. Esqr. one of his Majesty< no role > 's Justices of the Peace
of this County (being in the Execution of his Office for Preservation
of the Kings Peace and to Suppress any unlawfull Assembly of
loose idle and disorderly Persons in or near the place where a
pretended Fair called the Welch Fair was usually kept in the
Parish of St. James Clerkenwell ) these wicked and Scandalous
Words following, God damyon, I am a better Man than you
and you Scoundrell you may Kiss my Arse, and did curse the
Said John Elliott< no role > This name instance is in set 3963. in the presence and hearing of the Said
Mr. Elliott and of divers other persons, And whereas
another Indictment was preferred at the Same Sessions against
the Said William Griffiths< no role > for assaulting & beating Francis
Hole Esqr . another of his Majesty< no role > 's Justices of the Peace of this
County being in the Execution of his Office for Preservation
of the Kings Peace and to Suppress any unlawfull Assembly
of loose idle and disorderly Persons at or near the Said
pretended Fair And Whereas the Said William Griffiths< no role >
having for that purpose obtained Writs of Certiorari both
the Said Indictments were in Michas Term now last removed
into his Majestys Court of Kings Bench at Westmr. & came
on to be tryed before the Ld. Chief Justice Lee at the Sitting
after the Same Term and upon tryal of the Said Indictmt.

of the Offence and Misdemeanor charged against him in the
Same Indictment, But upon tryal of the Said Indictment
against the Said William Griffiths< no role > at the Prosecution of the
Said Francis Hole< no role > Esqr . the sd. Wm. Griffiths< no role > was contrary to
the Direction of the Ld. Chief Justice acquitted by the Jury
of the Offence & Misdemeanor charged against him in the
last mentioned Indictment And the Said John Elliott< no role > This name instance is in set 3963. and
Francis Hole< no role > Esqrs . now insisting at this present Quarter
Sessions That In Regard their Meeting together to
Suppress unlawfull Assemblies of loose idle and disorderly
