good and lawful Men of the said County duly chosen as by Law required, and who being then and there duly sworn
and charged to enquire for Our said Lord the KING, when, how, and by what means the said

came to h is Death, who upon their Oath say, That the said William
Bell in the Twenty ninth Day of April in the Year aforesaid being
a Prisoner
in New Prison
in the Parish and County aforesaid And having
with divers other Prisoners in an unlawfull riotous and tumultuous Manner assembled
themselves together and Attempted to break out of and escape from the
said Prison And having also in such their Attempt unlawfully and
with Force and Arms assaulted certain Persons to the Jurors aforesaid
unknown who were then and there stationed to keep the said Prison and to
prevent the Prisoners therein confined from Breaking out and escaping
therefrom They the said Persons so as aforesaid unknown in their
own Defence And in
[..] Order to prevent the said Prisoners from
Making their Escape as aforesaid certain Guns loaded with Gun powder
and Leaden Bullets which they then and there had and held in their Hands
to and amongst the said Prisoners did then and there short off and discharge
By Means whereof he the said

divers Mortal wounds in and upon the Body of him the said

Of which said Mortal wounds he the said

And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid Do Say That the
said Persons so as aforesaid unknown in Defence of themselves And to prevent
the Escape of the said

as aforesaid him the said

in Manner and by the Means
aforesaid Did kill and slay
In Witness whereof, as well the said Coroner, as the said James Wisker< no role >

the said Jurors on behalf of himself and the rest of his Fellows, in their presence, have to this Inquisition set their
