<p n="2529">Having been informed that a Special Committee of<lb></lb>
Governors were to meet this day to deliberate upon various<lb></lb>
matters which have reference to the great Sewer now filling<lb></lb>
up, and the valuable Hospital Estates as connected therewith,<lb></lb>
-the tenants of the Hospital who occupy those premises,<lb></lb>
and who are many of them Governors, being extremely<lb></lb>
desirous of contributing all the information and assistance<lb></lb>
in their power on so interesting an occasionhad the<lb></lb>
Sewer carefully surveyed yesterday by Messrs <rs type="persName" id="BBBRMG20210_n2529-1">Samuel<lb></lb>
Wyatt</rs>

reputationwhose report in consequence is now enclosed</p>
<p n="2530">And they trust that the Governors will see the propriety<lb></lb>
of coming to some resolution thereon, and of transmitting<lb></lb>
the same along with this report and that of the Hospital<lb></lb>
Surveyor-this day to the Commissioners of Servers; who,<lb></lb>
being delegated by, and in this instance representatives<lb></lb>
of, the Corporation of London are clearly bound to fill<lb></lb>
up the old Sewer so, that it will be a sufficient and<lb></lb>
permanent Security for the lofty Buildings over and<lb></lb>
adjoining the same.It is well known that the 29th<lb></lb>
Geo 2d obliged the <rs type="placeName" id="BBBRMG20210_geo269">City of London</rs>
<interp inst="BBBRMG20210_geo269" type="placeName" value="City of London"></interp>
<interp inst="BBBRMG20210_geo269" type="type" value="undefined"></interp>
to make a good and<lb></lb>
sufficient Sewer and Arch; and their Bridge Committee<lb></lb>
directed their Surveyor and Clerk to Certify to the<lb></lb>
Governors of Bridewell in May 1779 that they had<lb></lb>
been so made in the best manner; and that they were fit<lb></lb>
and adequate to support the lofty Buildings intended by<lb></lb>
the Hospital to be constructed thereon. This was plainly<lb></lb>
intended as an inducement to build, and the Governors<lb></lb>
acted upon it. The Corporation were moreover bound<lb></lb>
by the 29 Geo: 2 to maintain and keep in repair the</p>
