for ever and should have<lb></lb>
one Common Seal for the Use of the Hospitals with power<lb></lb>
to make such Ordinances Statutes and Rules as might<lb></lb>
be necessary for the Good Government of the said Hospitals.</p>
<p n="5846">That upon an Inspection of the Books or Records<lb></lb>
belonging to the said Hospitals respectively it Appears<lb></lb>
that soon after the foundation of the said Hospitals<lb></lb>
respectively and until in or about the Year 1557 the Affairs<lb></lb>
of such several Hospitals were managed and transacted<lb></lb>
by or under the Direction of certain of the Aldermn. of the said<lb></lb>
City and of some other Persons who appear to have been<lb></lb>
appointed or admitted governors of the said Hospitals at<lb></lb>
Courts or Committees held for such Hospitals respectively<lb></lb>
and that in or about the said Year 1557 the said Hospital<lb></lb>
of <rs type="placeName" id="BBBRMG20208_geo3214">Saint Bartholomew</rs>

<interp inst="BBBRMG20208_geo3214" type="type" value="undefined"></interp>
was united to the rest of the said<lb></lb>
Hospitals and such Hospitals from thence forth continued<lb></lb>
under the direction of such certain Alderman and other<lb></lb>
Persons as governors until in or about the Year 1564 in<lb></lb>
which Year it Appears by the Court Books belonging to<lb></lb>

<interp inst="BBBRMG20208_geo3215" type="type" value="undefined"></interp>
aforesaid that at a Court then holden on<lb></lb>
the 21st. day of September (being Saint Matthews day)<lb></lb>
a President treasurer and other governors were chosen<lb></lb>
for such Hospital respectively And it also Appears<lb></lb>
by such last mentioned Court Books that an Annual<lb></lb>
Election of governors was continued at Subsequent Courts<lb></lb>
holden in <rs type="placeName" id="BBBRMG20208_geo3216">Christ Hospital</rs>
<interp inst="BBBRMG20208_geo3216" type="placeName" value="Christ Hospital"></interp>
<interp inst="BBBRMG20208_geo3216" type="type" value="undefined"></interp>
aforesaid till in or about the<lb></lb>
Year 1587 from which time until in or about the Year<lb></lb>
1655 the like Courts for such Election as aforesaid Appear<lb></lb>
by the same Court Books to have been several times held<lb></lb>
but not Yearly or in the same regular manner and it doth<lb></lb>
not Appear by any of the Court Books belonging to the<lb></lb>
aforesaid Hospitals or any or either of them That such annual<lb></lb>
Elections on Saint Matthew's Day was kept up or observed<lb></lb>
after the said Year 1655 from which time or soon after</p>
