this 18th day of July 1797 in the Parish
of St. Margaret Westminster in the
House of John Butterworth< no role > the Sign
of the Rose and Crown at Knightsbridge
before Anthony Gell< no role > his Majestys
Coroner for the said City & Liberty
touching the Death of Mary Davis< no role >
then and there lying dead as
follow to Wit.

Robert Taylor< no role > a Private in the Coldstream Regimt.
being sworn deposeth that between 10 and 11 o'Clock
this Forenoon just after he had bathed in the Ser-
-pentine River in Hyde Park beyond the Magazine
towards Kensington Gardens he and some other
Persons observed something black on the Surface
of the Water and an old Gent. desired this Depont.
to go and see what it was whereupon he put off
his Cloaths again and went into the Water when
he observedit to bethe [..] Bonnett of a Woman, and
he swam to it and laid hold of it and soon
