Informations taken this Sixteenth day
of August 1786 at the Parish of St. Margaret
within the Liberty of Westmr. in the County
of Middlesex upon an Inquisition touching
the death of Catherine Roberts< no role > lying dead
in the said Parish Liberty and County.

John Brigham< no role > Apothecary Assistant to Mr. Churchill
Apothecary to the Parish of St. Margaret Westmr .
on his Oath saith,SaysThat he every day attends
at the Parish Workhouse for Mr. Churchill, That
the Deced came to said Workhouse one day
last Week and lived six days there as Dept.
thinks, her Death happening or Monday
Night the fourteenth Instant, Says that the
attended the Deced in the Workhouse being
in Bed, and told Dept. that she Spit Blood
and had done so from the time that she reced
a Blow from her Husband about Eight Weeks before, and
that she was well before she received that Blow
That he struck her with his Knee, either upon
her Breast or side (Dept. is not sure which
She said) Says that the Deced lay down
in the Bed until the last time that Dept.
said her, when she could not bear to lye do [..]
Says that Deced told Dept. that her Husband
being in Liquor wanted to go out to get
more Liquor, and that she endeavoured
to prevent his going out, and that in
forcing his way out she reced the Blow
abovementioned, but did not say that it
was done intentionally. Says that the Deced
had a Cough which she told Dept. she had ever
since she reced the Blow from, her Husband,
and Dept. says that the Spitting of Blood
and the Cough appear to Dept. to be the
cause of Deced's death.
