An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign Lord the
King at the Parish of St. George Hanover Square
within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster ,
in the County of Middlesex , the Twenty fifth day of July in the twenty third
Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of God, of
Great Britain, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas
Prickard
< no role > , Gentleman, Coroner of our said Lord the King for the said City and Liberty, on
View of the Body of William Padmore< no role > then and there lying dead, upon
the Oath of John Munday< no role > Abraham Hatchett< no role > , John Duncan< no role >
John Chideray< no role > , Charles Font< no role > , James Dobbin< no role > , John Kerby< no role > , William

good and lawful Men of the said Liberty, duly
chosen, who being then and there duly sworn and charged to enquire for our said Lord the
King, when, how, and by what Means the said William Padmore< no role > came to
h is Death, do upon their Oath say, That on the Twenty fourth day of July
in the Year aforesaid the said William Padmore< no role > a Laborer , being
at Work with a Man whose name is unknown and several
other Laborers, in and upon certain Houses in Arlington
Street in the Parish aforesaid within the Liberty and County
aforesaid, And that the said William Padmore< no role > him the said Man unknown without
any Cause or Provocation whatsoever did then and there strike
beat and evil intreat, whereupon the said Man unknown for the Preservation
and safety of his Person and of inevitable Necessity did then and there
with the Hands of him the said Man unknown, defend himself, by
Means whereof he the said William Padmore< no role > Casually by Misfortune and
against the will of him the said Man unknown did then and there receive
a mortal Bruise below the Ribs on the left side of the Body of him the said
William Padmore< no role > , of which said mortal Bruise he the said William
Padmore
< no role > then and there died. And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their
Oath aforesaid do say that the said William Padmore< no role > in Manner and by
the Means aforesaid Casually by Misfortune and against the Will of the
said Man unknown came to his Death and not otherwise.
In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner as the said John Munday< no role >
Foreman of the said Jurors, on the behalf of himself and the rest of his
Fellows, in their presence have to this Inquisition set their Hands
and Seals the Day Year and Place above mentioned
