An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign, Lord the
King, at the Parish of Saint George Hanover Square
within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster ,
in the County of Middlesex , the Sixth day of July in the Eighteenth Year
of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain,
France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas Prickard< no role > , Gentleman,
Coroner of our said Lord the King for the said City and Liberty, on View of the Body of
Richard Merry< no role > then and there lying dead, upon the Oath of John

John Longford< no role > and William Headon< no role > good and lawful Men of the Liberty, duly
chosen, who being then and there duly sworn and charged to enquire for our said Lord the
King, when, how, and by what Means the said Richard Merry< no role > came to
h is Death, do upon their Oath say, That the said Richard Merry< no role > on the First
day of July in the Year aforesaid being driving a certain Empty Cart
drawn by two Horses in the Kings Highway at Brompton in the
County aforesaid, and then and there riding upon the Shaft of the
said Cart, It so happened that the said Richard, Merry in jumping
off the Shaft of the said Cart, then and there accidentally casually
and by misfortune fell down upon the Ground, and that the
Near Wheel of the said Cart passed over the Legs and Body of the
said Richard Merry< no role > , so lying upon the Ground as aforesaid, by
Means Whereof the said Richard Merry< no role > then and there
Accidentally Casually and by Misfortune did receive mortal Bruises
in his Body, of which he languished until the Third day of the
same Month and Year, at the Parish and in the Liberty and County
aforesaid, and then and there of the Mortal Bruises aforesaid
he the said Richard Merry< no role > did die. And so the Jurors aforesaid
upon their Oath aforesaid do say, that the said Richard Merry< no role >
in Manner and by the Means aforesaid Accidentally Casually
and by Misfortune came to his Death, and not otherwise
In Witness whereof as well the said Coroner, as the said
John Sutton< no role > Foreman of the said Jurors, on the behalf of
himself and the rest of his said Fellow's in their presence,
have to this Inquisition set their Hands and Seals the Day
Year and Place abovementioned.
