Informations taken this Seventh
day of July 1778 at the Parish of St.
Margaret within the Liberty of Westmr .
in the County of Midsex upon an
Inquisition touching the death of
John Wells< no role > lying dead in the said
Parish Liberty and County

John Whitaker< no role > of the Great Almery Westmr. Laborer
on his Oath saith That on Sunday last (July 5th)
about their o' Clock in the afternoon Dept. was
Standing at the Westmr. Market and was informed
by a Boy that another Boy was Drowned in
the Thames by the Bridge upon which he
went there and look of his Clothes and went
into the Thames, and after having twice
Dived he felt the Deced with his foot lying
in the Thames between the Wooden Bridge
and Lord Lincoln's Stairs, Says in the Parish
of St. Margaret Westmr. Says that he got the
Deced up and lifted him into a Watermans
Box which brought him to the Shore at Westmr.
Bridge in the sd. Parish of St. Margaret Westmr.
appearing to be dead, but not been long in
the Water, Says that some Surgeons for some
time rubbed the Deced with Salt and used
other Means for the Deced Recovery, without
effect.
