Informations taken this Thirteenth
day of May 1771 at the Parish of St. James
within the Liberty of Westminster in the
County of Middlesex upon an Inquisition
touching the death of Jennison Shafto< no role > Esqr
lying dead in the said Parish Liberty and
County

George Barke< no role > Servant to Jennison Shafto< no role > Esqr.
in the Capacity of Footman on his Oath saith, That he
has lived with Mr. Shafts upwards of Nine Years last past
Says that Mr. Shafto has complained of a pain in his
Head and Neck for about two Months which was
some times very violent and sometimes better, but
Deced has been worse for the last ten days and attended by
Dr. Thomas and Mr. Carlisle, Says that he this Dept.
and his Fellow Servant Valentine Warham< no role > have sat up
with the Deced every other Night for the last ten night
and that Dept. sat up with him last Night, Says that
the Deced Slept pretty sound until about four o' Clock
this Morning when he a awoke, and was afterwards
very restless until about six o' Clock, complaining of a
violent pain in his Head and Feet, Says that about
six o'Clock Deced ordered Deponent to go and fetch
Mr. Nevison an Apothecary in Call Pall to him, upon
which Dept. went out, leaving the Deced in Bed in
his Room on the second Floor in very great pain
in his Head, Says that he knocked three or four
times at Mr. Nevion's Door before he could make
any body hear, Says that he delivered his Message
to Mr. Carlisle's Servant who went to Mr. Nevison
as Dept. believes and returned saying that Mr.
Nevison would come immediately, (mr. Nevison living
in the same House with Mr. Carlisle and in Partnership
with him as Dept believes) Says that he Locked his
Master's Street Door when he went out at being a Spring [..] and put the Key
in his Pocket and found the Door fast when he returned [..]
