Informations taken this twenty third
day of March 1770 at the Parish of St.
James within the Liberty of Westmr . in
the County of Middlsex upon and Inquisition
touching the Death of Richard Roberts< no role > lying dead
in the said Parish Liberty and County

Howall Roberts< no role > Labourer on his Oath saith that he
has loded about nine months with Mrs. Smith at the Sign
of the three Crowns in Badmay's Mewse in the Parish of St.
James and that John Roberts< no role > the Deced (Son to this Dept.)
has lain with him there about two months last past,
Says that he Dined with Deced on Tuesday last (March 20th.
at the Three Crowns abovementioned when Deced complain
of a Clod, Says that he came home to his Lodging about
Ten o'Clock that Night and found the Deced Drinking in the
Taproom, and desired Deced to go to Bed with him to which
Deced answered that he would follow, and Dept, thereupon
went up Stairs to Bed in the Garret, and fell asleep, Says
that he was awaked (but does not know the time) by the
opening of the Door when the Deced came into the Rover
having a Candle in one hand and a Pewter Pot in the other
That Deced sat down by a Table in the Room having his Barp
towards Dept. That he did not see Deced write but Deced
desired Dept. to carry a Letter to Mr. Brabston tomorrow when it
would be convenient for him, says that he was asleep again
in two or three Minutes and did not hear Deced come into
Bed, but about three o'clock in the Morning Dept. awoke
and heard the Deced wheezing in Bed, and Could hardly Breat
as he had ofter been before, Says that he spoke to Deced
but Deced was not able to speak or move himself, which
frightened Dept. who went down Stairs and called Mrs. Smith
and told her that he thought his Son was dying, and afterwards
went to acquaint his other Son therewith who Lodged in Peter Street
That he got a Candle and returned to his Lodging where he
found Deced dead in Bed. Says that he acquainted two Younger
Men who therewith who lodged in the Firly Floor but they did not go up to Dept. Room, Says
that he found a Letter the next Morning upon the Table,
(the Contents of which he does not know, nor can he tell who
wrote it) and that he delivered it to Mrs. Brabston, That
he likewise found the Pewter Pot upon the Table with a
few drops of some Liquor in, and that he threw the Pot
out
