Informations taken this Eighth day of August
1766 at the Parish of St. Margaret within the City
and Liberty of Westmr. in the County of Middlesex on an
Inquisition touching the Death of Samuel Whitten
lying Dead in the said Parish City Liberty and County,

Jeremiah Bright< no role > Pupil to Mr. Humphreys one of the
Surgeons belonging to the Westmr. Hospital situate in the
Parish of St. Margaret Westminster on his Oath saith that
on Monday last the 4th Instant Whitten the Deceds was brot. to said
Hospital between ten and eleven o'Clock in the Morning
by two Chairmen on their Horse, Says that he Examined
the Deced and found the Deced's right Leg very much
bit and the Calf tore away, Says that he Dressed the Deced
Leg and took out several pieces of the Bone that were
broke, Says that Mr. Humphreys Examined Deced's Leg
the same day and Dept. again Dressed it in the presence
of Mr. Humphreys Says that a Mortification appeared
on Wednesday in the last at which increased, and was yesterday
grown much worse and Deced Died this Morning
and Dept. verily believes that the Deced's Death was
caused, by the Biting of his Leg. And this Dept. further
says that the Deced informed him in said Hospital
that he was feeding some small Beafts last Monday
Morning when a Bear Bit him by the Leg and tore
it as abovementioned and that it was a long time
before he got losse from the Bear
