The Order of John Collick< no role > and John Hatchett< no role >
Esquires , tow of his Majesty< no role > 's Justices
of the Peace, Acting in and for the said City and Li-
berty, one whereof being of the Quorum, and both
residing next unto the Limits of the Parish Church
within the Parish of st. Martin in the Fields , within
the Liberty of Westminster , in the County of Mid-
dlesex, made the Seventh Day of April
in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hun-
dred and Ninety Eight concerning a Female
Bastard Child, lately born in the Work house of and
in the Parish aforesaid, of the Body of Lydia
Downes single Woman.

WHEREAS it hath appeared unto use the said Justices, as well upon the Complaint
of the Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Saint
Martin in the Fields , as upon the Oath of the said Lydia Downes< no role >
that she the said Lydia Downes< no role > on the Twenty Third Day of
February now last past, was delivered of a Female Bastard Child
in the said Parish of St. Martin in the Fields , within the said Liberty
of Westminster ; and that the said Female Bastard Child is now chargeable to the
said Parish of St. Martin in the Field and further, that John Ivers< no role > of Cow lane
in the Parish of Saint Sepulchre in the said County
did beget the said Bastard Child on the Body of her the said Lydia Downes< no role >
and Whereas it hath been duly proved to us upon Oath, that the said John
Ivers hath been duly sommoned to appear before us the said Justices,
to the end we might examine into the Cause and Circumstances of the Premises: And
Whereas the said John Ivers< no role > hath appeared before us but hath
not shown any sufficient Cause why he should not be adjudged the
reputed Father of the said Female Bastard Child
We therefore upon Examination of the Cause and Circumstances of the Premises, as well
upon the Oath of the said Lydia Downes< no role > as otherwise, do hereby
adjudge him the said John Ivers to be the reputed Father of the said
Bastard Child< no role > .

And thereupon we do Order, as well for the better Relief of the said Parish of St.
Martin in the Fields , as for the Sustentation and Relief of the said Bastard Child, that the
said John Ivers shall and do forthwith, upon Notice of this our Order,
pay or cause to be paid to the said Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said
Parish of St. Martin in the Fields , or to some or one of them the sum of Three Bunes
Eighteen Shillings for and towards the Lying-in of the said Lydia Downes< no role >
and the Maintenance of the said Bastard Child, to the Time of making this our Order.

And we do also hereby further Order, that the said John Ivers< no role > shall likewise
pay, or cause to be paid, to the Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said
Parish for the Time being, or to some or one of them, the Sum of Two shilling and Six Pence
Weekly and every Week from the present. Time, for and towards the Keeping, Susten-
tation, and Maintenance of the said Bastard Child, for and during so long Time as the
said Bastard Child shall be chargeable to the said Parish of St. Martin in the Fields .

And we do further Order, that the said Lydia Downes< no role > shall also pay.
or cause to be paid, to the said Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said
Parish for the Time being, or to some or one of them, the Sum of One shilling
Weekly and every Week, so long as the said Bastard Child shall be chargeable to the
said Parish, in case the shall not nurse and take care of the said Child herself.
