Maketh Oath and Saith
That William Dawes< no role >
of Princes Street
in the said Parish
of Saint Margaret
and one of the Overseers thereof on the
9th. day of November last, for and on behalf of the said
Parish, entered into a Recognizance to appear at the
then next General Quarter Sessions of the peace to be hell
for she said City and Liberty to prosecute Thomas Willis< no role >
and William Clarke< no role >
The said Thomas Willis< no role >
for stealing
a Bedstead sacking out of the Workhouse
of and belonging
to the said Parish of saint Margaret, he being a Pauper
therein, and the said William Clarke< no role >
for receiving the same
knowing it to be stolen And this Deponent further saith
that the said William Dawes< no role >
in pursuance of such recognizance
preferred an Indictment againt the said Thomas Willis< no role >
and the said William Clarke< no role >
, That the said William
Clarke was tried upon such Indictment and a Verdict of
not guilty was returned by he Jury And this Deponent
further saith That the said William Dawes< no role >
(Overseer as
aforesaid) conceiving that the Ends of Public Justice were
answered by such Trial, Moved the Court that the said
Thomas Willis< no role >
he being very old a not infirm might be
discharged which Motion was granted And this
Deponent further saith That he this Deponent was
employed as Sollicitor
for the purposes aforesaid
and this deponent further saith he verily believes she said
william Dawes< no role >
and not omit prosecuting the said Thomas
Willis for any other reason
