Church Wardens of
St. Thomas's Parish

agt. their being Sworn in


We further Report to this Court That Mr.
William Barnet< no role > and Mr. Thomas Dawson< no role > the Church
Wardens of the Parish St. Thomas in Southwark for
the year 1750. having informed us that they had been
Cited to attend the Visitation of the Archdeacon of
Surry on the 12th. of September last and give in their
Presentments and they having Omitted so to do were
Threatned by Mr. Ceasar a Proctor in Drs. Commons
with Process for such their Non Attendance We Order
ed That the said Church Wardens should be Defended
against any Suit that might be Commenced against them
in Consequence of their not attending the said Visitation
being of Opinion that they were Exempt from his Juris-
diction And the Clerk was also Order'd to Acquaint the
said Mr. Ceasar with our said Resolution which was
done and No Proceedings were had against the said
Church Wardens for such their Non Attendance.

And We further Report That Mr.
William Trehearn< no role > & Mr. Robert Core< no role > the Church War
dens of the said Parish Elected at Easter last for the
present year having been Cited to appear at the Visita-
tion of the Right Revd. Father in God Benjamin Lord
Bishop of Winchester at Kingston upon Thames on
Thursday 23d May last then and there to Take the Oath
of Church Wardens & Undergo the Visitation of the
said Bishop And having been Informed that the
said Mr. Trehearn and Mr. Core intended to obey the
said Citation The Clerk was Directed to Peruse the
Letters Patent Granted to this Hospital by King
Edward the Sixth and Examine the Proceedings of
the Several General Courts of this Hospital relating
to the said Parish & the Minister Church Wardens
& other Officers thereof. And amongst other their Pro-
ceedings We find that Dr. Bramston Surrogate to
the Chancellor of the Bishop of Winchester having
appointed a Visitation to be held in the said Parish
Church in the year 1703 the Committee upon ad-
vising with Counsel who were of Opinion that the
same was not Subject to any Ecclesiastical Juris-
diction whatsoever Order'd a Protest to be made in
the Names of the Governors of this Hospital against
his holding any Visitation in the said Church and
accordingly the said Dr. Bramston was refus'd
