To the Queens most Excellency Majesty in Councill

The Humble Peticon of your Majesties most dutifull
Subjects the Major was Comonalty and Citizens of your City
of London Governors: of the possessions Revenues and Goods of
the Hospitall of Edward the Sixth King of England [..]
of Christ Bridewell and St: Thomas the Apostle

Most humble Sheweth
The Hospll. Peticon
to the Queen:


That the said Hospitalls of Christ Bridewell and St: Thomas the
Apostle were founded by the said pions and Charitable price King Edward the Sixth
Who be severall Grants vested the Scites of the said Hospitalls and the Revenues
and Citizens of the said City of London and their Successors for ever And by his
Letters patents under the Great Seale of England beareing date the 26th. day of
June in the Seventh year of his Regine Ex made and constituted the said Maior
Comonalty Citizens and their Successors for ever Governors: of the possessions Revenues
and Goods of the said Hospitalls and Incorporated them by that Name And thereby
gave them full power and Authority to Name appoint make create and Ordanie
all such or so many Governors. Officers and Servants under them in the said Hospll.
for the better Governing of the same and provideing for the poor there as they should
from time to time think fitt and propper Without and Impeachmt. or Hindrance by the
said King his Heires or Successors or any of his Justices [..] Sheriffes
Ministers or any other his Subject whatsoever Any Sang Statute Act or Ordinance
made or to be made to the contrary notwithstanding.

That ever since the said Incorporacon the said Three Hospitalls have
been under the Care and Management of diverse E [..] and wealthy Citizens
and other persons substituted and appointed under your Petrs. and their Predecessors
as Governors. in each of the said Hospitalls wih power to Elect and Choose Officers
Ministers and Servants and the same to suspend or remove again and to
those others in their Roome from time to time as they should think expedient for the
good Government of the said Hospitalls and the orderly providers for the poor there.

That in pursueance of this power The Governors. of the said Hospll. of St
Thomas at a Generall Court in the yeare 1693: Chose Doctor Richard Torlesse< no role > to be
Physitian of that Hospitall and in the yeare 1692. they Those Mr. Thomas Elton< no role >
One of the Surgeon of the said Hospitall To hold their places dureing the pleasure of
that Court and not otherwise And at a Generall Court held the 17th, of March last
The said Governor: thought fitt for just and reasonable Causes as they [..] ve to
determine their pleasure and to dismisse the said Doctor and Surgeon fran the Service
of the said Hospitall.

That the Governors of the said [..] Hospitall in Obedience
to your Majesties Order in Council bearing date the 23th. day of the same Month
made upon Complaint of the said Doctor Torlesse and Mr. Elton have out of
Just Sence of the duty they are to your Royall Comands for borne to proceed to the
Eleccon of a Physitian and Surgeon in their places.Although as your Pet. are
desired by their Councill and doe in all dutifull manner most humbly represent to
your Majesty The Right of Ministry the said three Hospitall is by vested in your
Peticonrs: And the power of placeing and displaceing Officers therein is Lodged in the
respective Governors substitute as aforesaid under your Petrs. for manageing of the
Affaires of the said Hospitalls.

In Consideracon whereof and for as much as the Want of Fitt persons
to supply the places of the said Doctor and Surgeon hath been already of so small
Inconveniency and may if contained at this Season in the Yeare be highly prejudice
to the poor lame sick and diseased People harboured in the said Hospitall of St: Thomas.
