Then Doctor Torlesse & Mr: Elton were severally
called in & insisted as at the former Comittee that
they [..] received the Money as a Gratuity for
themselves & the other Surgeons, and that their
Applications were made by the direccon & approbacon
of a Grand Comittee abt: 7: or 9: yeares agoe,
and desired that Sr: Rastho: Gracedien, Mr
Evan Evans< no role > & Mr. Wm. Coatsworth< no role > , who went up
with them to the Comr: and also one Mr: Johnson
the first Clerk to the sd Comr: way be heard;
Whereupon those Gentlemen first named were called in and
Heard accordingly, And in substance informed
this Comittee that about 7: or 8: yeares agoe
The Dr: & Surgeons came to a Comittee just as they
were riseing & desired the Comittee to Assist them in
Getting a Gratuity from the Comr: on acct: of the
Seamen, and that Sr: Bartho: Gracedien< no role > & Mr: Evans
were requested by the Comittee to goe up with them
[..] who say they did so, but were told by the Comr: that they
could not give any Gratuityes and they must
Apply to the King or the Treasury or to that Offed
[..] Mr: Coatsworth says the Comr: promised to recomend their Case to the Treasury & says souce Stepps were taken
& Money expended by them [..] in order to make an Interest & lay
this Matte before the Comr: at the Treasury , but
they did not goe throught with it, And he and St:
Bartho: Gracedien & Mr: Evans say, they have not
heard of any further Proceeding therein or af any
Money recd by Dr: Torlesse or Mr Elton till abt:
Munday last was Securing, And Sr. Bartho:
Gracedien says, he cannot exactly remember
whether their Application was for the Surgeons &
Dr: or for the House, but thinks it was for the House

Mr: Johnson being called in says he knows that some Governors:
attended the Comr on this Occasion 5: or 6: yeares
agoe but none lately; Says the Money ordered
