Yours of the 31st. past Mr. Treasurer receiv'd
And is by no means Satisfied with the excuse you offer for felling
the Timber: Which had you fell'd only for the Use of the Estate
by the tenor of your Lease you ought to have obtain'd leave first.
He is fully Satisfied the Trees are not of the bad Quality you
mention and is well inform'd they are worth some pounds. as
matters are Circumstanced the Treasurer thinks himself under
a Necessity of Fineing you, but to Prevent the Severity which wod.
Attend if it were laid before the Grand Committee will impose
it himself

St: Thomas's Hospital April 28th. 1765

Sir
On Mr. Dawsons Application to the Gd. Comee of the Govrs. of
ye Hostpl. on yr. behalf They granted you a lease of the premisses in
the Old Bailey, which is Engrossed accordingly. And now Mr. Dawson
Claims an Allowance of a Yrs: Rent on pretence of the delay in granting
the lease, And on that Accot. refuses to pay me the Rent. I therefore
by order of the Treasurer am to Acquaint you that it is expected
that you direct Mr. Dawson to pay the Rent forth with. And you
are desired to let me know how the Counterpart of the lease is to
be Conveyed to you to be Executed on the return of which it shall
be exchanged for the Original. On making the Agreement, Mr:
Dawson refused to give to the Poors box (which is done by all who
take leases of the Hospital) Suggesting your disinclination to do
a Charitable Act, which the Committee are much Surpriz'd at
