To the Worshipful His Majesty's Justices of the
peace for the County of Middlesex in their General
Quarter Session of the peace Assembled

The Humble Petition of William Husband< no role > of Cockspur
Street in the parish of Saint [..] Martin in the Fields in their the Liberty of
Westminster in the County of Middlesex Postmaster

Sheweth


That by a Certain Conviction under the hand and
Seal of Henry James Pye< no role > Esquire of his Majesty's Justices of
the Peace for the County of Middlesex bearing date the eighth
day of June now last past your Petitioner was Convicted in the
Penalty of Ten pounds for that he after the first day of August
one thousand seven hundred and eighty five to wit on the Sixth
Day of April in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred
and Ninety Seven being a person duly Licenced Let Horses to hire
agreable to an Act of Parliament passed in the twenty fifth year
of the Reign of his present Majesty enfield "An Act for repealing
"the duties on Licenses taken out by persons Letting Horses for the
"Purpose of travelling post and on Horses let to Hire for travelling
"post and by time and on Stage Coaches and for granting other
"Duties in Lien thereof and also additional Duties on Horses let
"to hire for travelling post and by time" Did within the Kingdom
of Great Britain to wit at the parish of Saint Martin in the Fields in this [..]
Liberty of Westminster in the County of Middlesex aforesaid
let out for hire divers to wit two horses to draw a certain Carring
with four wheels called a post & house by the Stage to be used
and which were accordingly used in travelling post that is to say
from the parish of Saint [..] Martin in the Field within the liberty of Westminster
in the County of Middlesex aforesaid to Woolwich in the
County of Kent and did deliver or Cause to be delivered a certain
ticket called a Stamp Office ticket to the hirer of the said
horses but Did Insert in the said Ticket a less Number of Miles
than the number of Miles Charged to such hirer that is to say
did insert in the said Ticket Nine Mills but did charge
such hirer Twelve Mills for the said Stage whereby the said
hirer was Compelled to and did pay for a greater Number of
Mills than the Number of Mills Inserted in the said Ticket
that
