To the Worshipful his Majestys Justices of the Peace
for the County of Middlesex Assembled at the General
Session of the Peace for the said County at the Session
House on Clerkenwell Green on Monday the twelfth
day of September 1796

The Humble Petition and Appeal of Robert
Armstrong
< no role > of Shorts Gardens in the said
County Pawnbroker

Sheweth


That your Petitioner was on or about the seventeenth
day of August last Convicted in the Penalty of Five pounds by
Thomas Robinson< no role > Esquire one of his Majestys Justices of the Peace
for the said County of Middlesex upon an Information Exhibited
and Prosecuted by James Tuffield< no role > charging that your Petitioner
being a Person using and excercising the Trade and business of a
Pawn broker at Shorts Gardens in the said County on the second
day of July now last past at shorts Gardens aforesaid did take
and receive of and from one Esther Dale< no role > a certain Pledge to wit a
Ring upon which your Petitioner did then and there and the
Sum of Three Shillings and six pence and at the time of taking the
said Pledge did neglect and refuse to give to the said Esther Dale
a Note or Memorandum as directed by the statute in that case
made and provided and did receive and retain the said Pledge
without the said Esther Dale accepting or taking the said note
or Memorandum contrary to the form of the said Statute

That your Petitioner conceives himself agrieved by
such Conviction and is advised to appeal against the same

Your Petitioner therefore humbly prays
your worships will be pleased to permit him
to enter his appeal so that the same may be heard
at this present General Session of the Peace in and
for the said County and that your Worships will
appoint a day for hearing and determining
the same.

And your Petitioner as in duty
found will ever pray Etc
