To the Worshipful his Majestys Justices of the Peace
for the County of Middlesex assembled at the General
Session of the Peace for the said County at the Session
House on Clerkernwell Green on Monday the 12th.
day of September 1796

The Humble Petition and Appeal of
Robert Armstrong< no role > of Shorts Gardens in
the said County Pawnbroker

Sheweth


That your Petitioner was on or about the seventeenth day
of August last Convicted in the Penalty of Five pounds by Thos.
Robinson
< no role > Esqr. one of his Majestys Justices of the Peace for the said
County of Middlesex upon an Information Exhibited and Presented
by James Tuffield< no role > charging that your Petitioner being a Person
using and excercising the Trade and business of a Pawnbroker.
at Shorts Gardens in the said County on the second day of August
now last past at Shorts Gardens aforesaid did take and receive of
and from one Esther Dale< no role > a certain Pledge to wit a pair of Earrings
upon which did then and there lend the sum of Two Shillings and
that your Petitioner at the time of the taking the said Pledge did
neglect and refuse to give to the said Esther Dale a Note or
memorandum as directed by the Statute in such case made
and provided and did receive and retain said Pledge without
the said Esther Dale accepting or taking the said note or
memorandum Contrary to the form of the Statute in such case
made and provided

That your Petitioner conceives himself agrieved by
such Conviction and is advised to Appeal against the same

Your Petitioner therefore humbly
Prays your worships will be pleased to
permit him to enter his appeal so that the
same may be heard at this present General
Session of the Peace in and for the said County
and that your Worships will appoint a Day
for hearing and determining the same

And as in duty found will
ever pray Etc.
