Middlesex to wit

The Information of John Smith< no role > No 44 Primrose
Street in the Parish of Saint Leonard Shoreditch in
the County of Middlesex Bricklayer Taken on Oath
before me One of this Majesty's Justices of the Peace in
and for the said County this 6 July 1795.

Who saith That about Six Years ago the Prisoner Samul.
Finch
< no role > took a Room in his House and was to pay 12/.
per week for hisBreadBoard and Lodging. That he told this
Informant he had lived in the Isle of Ely with his Daughter
who being married to a rich Quaker, thought it best to leave
them, as he had a little Money coming from the South Sea
House Sufficient to Keep him. That the Prisoner was
with this Deponent ten or eleven days and behaved very
well, was extremely religious and could respect the best
part of Dr. Watt's Hymns by heart. That for four days
the Prisoner appeared very uncasy in consequencethat
(as he presented) of not having Money enough to pay for
a Chest with family plate and Linen which was coming
to him from the County, saying he had a great deal of
Money when he came to Town but had paid it away
in a Law sent. That the Prisoner asked the Deponets
Wife to lend him three Gunieas, saying when his Chest
came up, she might have Ten or twenty Guineas at
any time. That this Deponent believing him to be
a very honest good Man, lent him two Gunieas and a
half. That the next Morning the Prisoner
said he was going to Leadenhall Street to fetch his
Chest and would return to Dinner, but Deponent
never saw him from that time until Friday last
and he verily believes that the Prisoner obtained the
Money from him with Intent to Cheat and Defraud him
of the same.
