The Clerk of the peace

This Courthavingbeeninformed the Courtby the Clerk of the Peace that
pursuant to thetheirResolutionsofmade at the last Session and [..] also one of the peace hold on for this [..] the 19th.Instant
day of April Instant he had caused Advertizementshad beento be inserted in the Publick [..] Papers giving notice of the
time and place for the Election of a Surveyor or Supervisor under the Building Act for
the District of Saint John and Saint James Clerkenwell in the sd County in the [..] stand of
Thomas Sutton< no role > deceased and that in consequence thereof he had received
severalPetitions and Certificates from severaldifferentPersons which he had
marked numerically as follows Vizt.

No.1 The Petition of James Burton< no role > of Wardrobe Court Doctors Commons
praying to be appointed Surveyor of the said District
and recommended by Etc

No 2 Francis Gray< no role > praying to be appointed as above recommended by Etc

No 3 William Thomas< no role > praying to be appointed as above recommended by Etc

No 4 William Wickinge< no role > of Islington praying to be appointed as above and
recommended by Etc

No 5 John Jobbins< no role > praying to be appointed as above

No 6 Richard Fleming< no role > of Tottenham Court Road praying to be appointed as above

No 7 Joseph Carter< no role > praying to be appointed as above recommended by Etc

No. 8 John Matthews< no role > for New Street Square Fetter Lane praying to be appointed

And the said Pet. that as above being Realed

Ordered that the Election be by Ballot commence at the hour of One and Close at
the hour of three precisely

Resolved [..] Motion was made that the following Question be [..] put to each Candidate Vizt
"Whether he is a Workman in the Building Branch as well as a Surveyor
and the same being agreed to Resolved
Movedthat such of the above Petitioners as are Workmen in the
Building Branch as well as Surveyor be not admitted as Candidates to succeed the sd I Sutton unless they engage
to relinquish within a reasonable time all & every employment as Workmen
in the building branchand that the above Questions be put to
