Indicted for assaulting
Mary Fidler< no role > with intent
to Ravish her.

John Slight< no role > of North Mims in the County of Hertford Yeoman
the above named Defendant maketh Oath and saith that standing
Indicted at the last Session of the Peace holden in the Month of October
last this Deponent appeared and pleaded to the same Indictment and
put in Good Bail to try his Traverse thereon which he intended to do
at this present Session and relied upon his Bail to assist him in
bringing on the Trial this Deponent being totally ignorant of what
was necessary to be done for that purpose And this Deponent further
saith that through the ignorance of this Deponent and his Bail he this
Deponent neglected to give Notice of Trial in due time for this Session but
this Deponent by the direction of his Bail on Saturday the sixth day
of December instant caused a Notice to be served on the abovenamed
Prosecutrix in the presence of Joseph Cowperl< no role > who this Deponent has
been informed and believes carries on this Proscution for the said
Prosecutrix at his own Expence) that this Deponent would appear
and take his Trial on the Wednesday then next following and
the said Joseph Cowper< no role > informed this Deponent that the Notice should
have been served on the Wednesday preceding but afterwards said
that he was willing to wait on Deponent at any time when he
pleased whereby this Deponent understood that he thereby
consented to accept the said Notice and would pennit this
Deponent to be tried at this present Session and accordingly
this Deponent came to London on Monday last in order to empty
a Solicitor to take the necessary Steps for bringing on the said
Trial but to this Deponents great Surprise he was informed
that the Solicitor for the prosecution had obtained an order to
estreat the Recognizance of this Deponent and his Bail And
