The Examination and Volentary Information of
Joseph Caddey< no role > taken upon Oath before us thereof his
Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the County of
Middlesex the twenty fourth day of November One
Thousand seven Hundred & Eight at New Prison
in the said County

This Informant upon his Oath saith that on the Sixth day of
November Instant he was Committed to New Prison at Clerkenwell
by Sampson Wright< no role > Esquire for Feloniously and Burglariously
breaking and Entering the dwelling house of one Mary Newstead< no role >
and that being in the said Prison under the said Committment he
did on the said sixth day of November Instant in the afternoon of that
day he applied to Phillip Gussett< no role > one of the Servants employed by
the Keeper o the said Prison and hold him he warted to make his
Escape apron which said Gussett said I am sure you don't mean no
"such thing" and laughed upon which this informant repeated his
intention and then gave him Twelve or Fourteen Shillings but
whether it was Twelve or Fourteen he cannot possitively say That
said Gussett took the money and walked away without taking any
further notice of the matter That on Tuesday the next day this
Informant told said Gussett if he, one Mackenzie and George
Barkington two other Prisoners in the said Goal could get an
opportunity the should that night make their Escape at which
said Gussett only laughed and said "you dont mean any such
thing" and afterwards in the Duke of the Evening of the said
Tuesday this Informant gave said Gussett five Shillings more
and that one the Wednesday next following this Informant told
said Gussett he and the other Two Prisoners meant to Escape that
Night if they could get an Opportunity but not being able to
effect their Escape that Evening on the Thursday following in the
Evening about Seven o'Clock this Informant and the said other two
Prisoners
