Informations of Witnesses severally Taken and Acknowledged
on the behalf of his Majesty the Twenty first day of October in the
Year of Our Lord 1769 At the House of Noble Reynolds known
by the Sign of the London Hospital in White Chappell Road in the
Parish of Saint Mary White Chappell in the County of Middlesex
before Thomas Phillips< no role > One of the Coroners for the said County
touching the death of James Briggs< no role > then and there lying Dead
as follow (to wit)

William Rawlings< no role > Saith he is Landlord of the Dolphin Alehouse in
new Cock Lane That about Nine o'Clock this Day three Weeks
in the Evening Some Men belonging to Sr. Jno. Fielding< no role > Came into
Informants And said something to the People in the Tap Room
but what or to whom in Particular he Knows not That Directly afterwards
Came in a Captain of the Guards who he hath heard since was
Capt. GreenfieldThat Informant whisper'd in the Capts. Ear
and Told [..] that what he wanted he Believed was up Stairs
That then the Capt. said to some Soldiers who Came into the
Passage with him "up Stairs Up Stairs" Upon that the Soldiers
Advanced to the bottom of the StairsPresently afterwards
somebody Called out (Informant thinks some of the Soldiers in
the Passage [..] Called out) One of their Men was Shot
That there was a Person who Informant took to be a Justice
and who he was afterwards told was Justice Wright
And either He or the Capt. Said Load and Fire or Fire Informant
cannot be Positive whichThat this was to the best
of his Knowledge After the Soldiers had Called Out One of
their Men was Shot That the Man who was Shot
Informant thinks was Shot from above Stairs
That as soon as the Soldier was Shot either the Justice
or the Commanding Officer Ordered the Soldiers to Fire
That there were some Persons in a One Pair of Stairs
