Upon the humble Peticon of the Inhabitants of Hollywell Court
als King John's Court in the Parish of St Leonard Shoreditch
in this County exhibited unto this Court setting forth That it
hath been accustomed time out of mind for the Inhabitants of
the sd. Court to choose Scavengers within themselves for the sd
Court and to make a rate for the cleansing the same (& noe
other Officers) and that the antient Inhabitants of the parish
of St Leonard Shoreditch at a vestry held for the chooseing
Scavengers have contrary to Severall Orders of this Court
Chosen Scavengers for the Liberty of Hollywell start in the
said parish and included Hollywell Court to them contrary to
the sd. antient custome & the severall Orders before menconed It was
therefore prayed by the Petrs. that this Court would Order the
present Scavengers of the Liberty of Hollywell Street & all
others concerned to attend this Court to shew cause why they
have taken Hollywell Court aforesaid into the sd. Liberty of
Hollywell street, and why the Inhabitants of Hollywell Court
should not Choose their owne Scavengers according to antient
custome or that this Court would make such other Order as
shall seem meet, Whereupon It is Ordered by this Court that the
Petrs. & alsoe the present Scavergers of the Liberty of Hollywell
Street aforesd. & such Inhabitants of the sd Parish who made
their of the sd Scavengers doe attend Alexander Pitfeild< no role >
John Cass< no role > Joseph Jory< no role > Roger Smith< no role > Charles Cesar< no role > & Nathaniel
Manlove
< no role > Esqrs. Justices of the peace for this County or any
three of them at such times & place as they shall appoint who
are hereby desired to examine into the truth of the Petrs.
complaint and to make such determinacon in the premisses as
to the said Justices of the peace or any three of them shall
seem meet upon hearing of all parties, But if the sd. Parties
