the King assigned to keep the Peace in the County aforesaid
and also to hear and determine divers felonies Trespasses
and other misdemeanours committed in the same County
Whereas The Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the parish of
Saint John the Evangelist in the City of Westminster
in the County of Middlesex
Have at this present Session Exhibited their Petition and Appeal setting forth
That by virtue of a pass Warrant or Order under the Hands and Seals of W.
Martin and Geo: Reid< no role >
Esquires
two of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace
acting in and for the City and Liberty of Westminster
(one whereof being of
the Quorum) bearing date the 29th day of May 1776 Christiana Smith< no role >
aged
8 Years and Mary Smith< no role >
aged 7 Years were removed and conveyed from
parish of St James within the Liberty of Westminster
in the County of Middlesex
to the said parish of Saint John the Evangelist
as the place of the last legal
Settlement of the said Christiana Smith< no role >
and Mary Smith< no role >
Whereby the
Petitioners conceived themselves aggrieved Now upon hearing the said Appeal
in the presence and hearing of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor
of the parish of Saint James Westminster
and they consenting by their
Counsel to the allowing the said Appeal It is ordered that the said Appeal
be and the same is hereby allowed and the said Pass Warrant or order of
the said two Justices is hereby vacated and set aside and It is further ordered
that the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the parish of Saint John
Westminster
do forthwith convey and deliver back the said Christiana
and Mary Smith< no role >
unto the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the
parish of Saint James Westminster
or to some or one of them who are
hereby required to receive and provide for the said Christiana and Mary
Smith< no role >
until they can free themselves from the charge thereof by due
Course of Law
