The Humble Petition and Appeal of Nathaniel Collyer< no role >
Son of Samuel Collyer< no role > of London Gentleman and
Apprentice to Matthew Frostick< no role > This name instance is in set 22102242. of the Parish of
Saint Andrew Holborne in the County of Middlesex
Joiner and Cabinet maker

Sheweth


That by a certain Indenture bearing date the Twenty third day of
November in the Year of our Lord one Thousand seven hundred and Sixty Eight
It is Witnessed that your Petitioner by and with the Consent and
Approbation of his said Father did put himself Apprentice to the said
Matthew Frostick< no role > This name instance is in set 22102242. to learn his Art and with him after the manner of an
Apprentice to Serve from the said Twenty third day of November unto the
full end and Term of Seven Years from thence next following to be fully
Compleat and ended And the said Matthew Frostick< no role > This name instance is in set 22102242. did thereby
Covenant Promise and agree to and with the said Samuel Collyer< no role >
that for and in Consideration of the Sum of Twenty one Pounds (the
Receipt whereof he did thereby acknowledge) your Petitioner in the
Art of Joiner and Cabinetmaker which he used by the best means
that he could should Teach and Instruct or cause to be taught and
Instructed as by the said Indenture relation being thereunto had
may more fully and at large Appear.

That your Petitioner is at Times imployed in Sweeping and cleaning of the
House and the Windows thereof and in doing diverse and sundry other
Household Work and business under the Direction of the Maid Servant guite
Contrary to the said Trade and Business of a Joiner and Cabinetmaker as
also to the said Indenture of Apprenticeship

That your Petitioner is an Infant about the Age of fifteen and that his
said Master without any reasonable Cause whatsoever hath already at
different Times struck and beat your Petitioner very much and that about the
middle of the Month of February last he violently assaulted and beat your
Petitioner and gave him a black Eye and upon every trifling Occasion
threaten's to cut out his little Heart with a Saw or the first Tool he lays
hold of

That on Friday the third day of March last your Petitioners said Master
without any Provocation or reasonable of Justifiable Cause whatsoever given
him by Your Petitioner with a large knotted Cord did violently and
unmercifully beat your Petitioner at two different Times on the same Day
Insomuch that your Petitioner was bruised to that degree that he Underwent
great Pain Torture and Anguish thereby for several Days afterward.
