the proportion of Middlesex Prisoners has
been upon an Average a fourth part that
were tried have been acquitted-In
December 1752 there were 70 Prisoners
in the Kalendar-has generally run in the
same Way-& beleives would come to the
same if was to take it for a Number of
years-of 70 prisoners 45 were tried
15 discharged by proclamation witht. prosecution
-to prosecuted at Hicks's Hall and the
City of London -have gone this the whole
Year in the same manner, there were 680
prisoners of which there were discharged
by proclamation 176 & 50 Indicted at Hicks's
Hall & including some removed to other
Gaols charged with Crimes Committed in
other Counties-so that there were 454
prisoners tried at the Old Baily on the
Middlesex Side.

Why has the [..] Order of 22d. Instant for the
City of London to lay before this Committee
The Leases or Grants of which they hold under
the Crown the Appointments of the Sheriffs of
London & Middlesex ; not been complied with?

Mr. Recorder of London-The reason is the City has
no Leases of Grants in their Custody or power
except their Charter; the Inspeximus of which
has been already laid before the Committee
