The Examination and volluntary
Confession of Daniel Blake< no role > taken
before us this 5th day of February 1763

This Examinant volluntary confesseth and saith that on
Tuesday Morning last about five of the Clock he entered the
Room of Mr. John Murcott< no role > late Butter to the Right Honble Lord
Dacre and seeing the said Murcott Lying in his Bed it came into
his head to Murder him, and accordingly he this Examinant
went into the Laundy when he found a large Poker with which
he Strook the said Murcott two violent blows,that he then with
a knife cut his Throat and that he instantly expired,says that
the day before he Committed this horrid Crime he took
Twenty Guineas out of the said Murcott's Room which he
found upon his Cupboard wrapt up in a Piece of Paper
and this Examinant says that he does not make this Confession
from any Threats or Perouations What ever, but merely from
Conscions Guilt and from a desire that no Innocent Person
may be Charged with the same fact and farther says that
he took out of the said Murcott's [..] Pocket after he was Dead
three Guineas and a half in Gold
