Where as it appears to us whose Hands and Seals are
hereunto set two of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the County of
Middlesex fore of whom is of the Quorum) and both dwelling within or next
the Limitts of the Parish Church of the Parish of Saint John at Hackney in
the County of Middx as well upon the Complaint of the Church Wardens & Overseers
of the Poor of the said Parish as also by the Examination of Jane Doe< no role >
Singlewoman taken in writing upon Oath before as and other Proofs and
Circumstances that She the said Jane Doe< no role > was on or about the twenty
third day of November last delivered of a Male Bastard Child in the
said Parish of Saint John at Hackney which was afterwards baptized
by the Name of John < no role > and which is now living and hath been and stere
is chargeable to the said Parish and that one John Vessy< no role > of the said
Parish of Saint John at Hackney Victualer in the reputed Father of
the said Male Bastard Child And whereas the said John Vessy.
appeared before us this day to answer to the said charge and being
examined touching the same hath not been able to clear himself
therefrom We do therefore on the Oath of the said Jane Doe< no role > and other
Proofs and Circumstances Adjudge the same to be true and that the
said John Vessy is the reputed Father of the said male Bastard Child
And we do Order that the said John Vessy shall on sight of this our Order
pay or cause to be paid unto the Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor
of the said Parish of Saint John at Hackney or to either of them the
Sum of three Pounds four Shillingsof lawfull Money of
Great Britain so much being by them already expended and laid out
for and towards the Charges arising by the said Male Bastard Child
being how in the said Parish and for other necessary expences
occasioned thereby And that the said John Vessy shall also weekly
and every Week from and after the date hereof so long as the said Male
Bastard Child shall be chargeable to the said Parish pay or cause to
be paid unto the Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said
Parish or to either of them the Sum of two Shillings
of like Money for and towards the maintaining keeping and
Education of the said Male Bastard Child And we do further Order
that the said Jane Doe< no role > shall nurse keep and take care of the said
Male Bastard Child Given under our Hands and Seals this
Twenty Eighth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand
seven hundred and Sixty One.
