Hill , Maker of water Strings hath Served 2 Years, being Sworn says that on Sunday
the 23d Day of Decemberlast past1759 her master Joseph Cockbill< no role > beat the sd
Elizabeth Furniss< no role > in a Violent manner with a Horsewhip & a Came wherewith
he walked and had used the same treatment to the sd Elizabeth Furniss< no role > for 3 weeks
before the sd Sunday Says that the food of all the Children being nine in Number
was very seventy & Some times bad, That She believes the Shirt Allowance of food
& beating was the Occasion ofher Deathe Death of the sd Elizabeth Furniss< no role > for
reused to beat her every Day

aforesd [..] Chestmaker being Sworn Says that on the Sunday before Christmas
Day 1759 wch was the 23d day of December She this Depont. did See the sd
Joseph Cockbill< no role > beat the sd Elizabeth Furniss< no role > with a Whip called a Horsewhip
& hath Seen said Cockbill beat the sd Eliz: Furniss severall times to force in a
very cruel Manner That Depont. did once wash & Clean the sd Eliz: Furniss< no role > with
warm Water and Saw her bruizes & blackness where she had been beaten, That he
supported or fed 8. or 9 Children who were with him in a very poor manner such as
would ast Support Life long either for the quantity or quality for that what Meat
they had was in general very bad And Depont. thinks the said Eliz: Furniss< no role > left her
Life by means of the short allowance and bad uess of the food given to her and by
the Strips and beating she rewd from the sd Joseph Cockbill< no role > this Depont. lives
in the same house with sd Cockbill & the Children

Jane Pickering< no role > of Windmill Hill Spinster Says that sd Sunday before Christmas
day Depont. went into the House of said Joseph Cockbill< no role > for empty Alehouse Potts, &
heard the Veiws of Children in Seeming great Distress as it they were cruelly used & heard
one of the Children say that her Masterhad tomeaning sd Cockbill had been beating her
