Whereason the 24th: day of May 1754 an order was made by
Henry Trent< no role > and John Bricoe< no role > Esqrs . two of his Majestys Justices of the
peace for the City and liberty of Westmr. (one of the Quorum) dwelling in
the Parish of St. James within the liberty of Westmr. in the County of Middx
as well upon the Complaint of the then present Churchwardens and Over
seers of the poor of the said Parish of St. James as also by the oath of pr
Catherine Bennet< no role > Single woman whereby you was adjudge to be the
reputed father of a female bastard Child born of the body of the said Catherine
Benneton
< no role > the 18th day of November 1752 in the said Parish of St: James
And Whereby you was ordered as well for the better releif and Keeping
Indemnified the said Parish. of St: James as for the maintainance and
releife of the said female Bastard Child forthwith to pay or Cause to be
paid to the then Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the Said pa-
rish of St. James aforesaid or some or one of them the sum of Twenty
Shillings for an towards the necessary Charges the said Parish had
been put unto on Account of the premisses and where by you were for
then ordered to pay or Cause to be paid unto the said Church wardens and
Overseers for the time being the sum of 2s:6d Weekly and every Week
from the date thereof for and towards the treeping sustenation and Main
-tainance of the said Child for and dicring so long time as the said
female bastard Child should continue and be a Charge and burthen
on the Said parish And Lastly the said Justices did order that you on
Notice of that their order (a trise Copy being delivered to you) should
forthwith put in sufficient surity for the performance of that their
said order or else personally to appear at the then next General quar
ter Sessions of the peace to be holden in and for the said City and Liberty
then and there to abide such ordered as the Justices of the peace or the Major
part of them then and there present shall think fit to make in that be-
-half Against which said recited order you Exhibited your petition
and appeal unto his Majesys Justices of the peace assembled at the
present General Quarter Session of the peace holden for the said City
and liberty of Westmr: at which Sessions upon hearing the said petition
and appeal the same was Disallowed and the aforesaid order of the said
two Justices of the peace was ratified and Confirmed And Whereas the
Sum of Four pounds and five shillings hath been already laid out
and Expended by the said Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of
the said parish of St: James for and on Account of the premisses above men-
tioned and which is now unsatisfied and unpaid by you Therefore
